CookieRun Classic is the game that launched a franchise played by over 300 million people worldwide. After years as a Korea-exclusive title known as Cookie Run for Kakao, Devsisters released a global version in June 2026 that preserves the classic endless-runner formula while adding new Cookies, events, and League competition for international players.

If you are arriving from CookieRun: Kingdom or OvenBreak, expect a simpler but deeper runner. There is no kingdom to build — your progression comes from collecting Cookies and Pets, upgrading Treasures, and pushing your score higher across episodes and League seasons.

This beginner guide walks you through your first hour of gameplay, explains the core currencies, and shows you where to spend resources so you never feel stuck on the starting line.

Your First Run: Tutorial and Controls

The opening tutorial teaches Jump and Slide — the only inputs you need. Jump lifts your Cookie over pits, spikes, and low-flying obstacles. Slide ducks under barriers and can also destroy certain floor hazards when combined with specific Cookie abilities.

During your first run with GingerBrave, focus on survival rather than score. Watch how jellies cluster in safe zones and notice when the game speeds up after thirty seconds. The energy bar at the top drains steadily; when it empties, your run ends unless a Pet or Treasure revives you.

After the tutorial, head to Cookie Trials or Episode 1 depending on what the game prompts. Cookie Trials assign score targets that unlock rank rewards, while Episodes structure the world map into themed zones with their own difficulty curves.

Understanding Cookies, Pets, and Treasures

Cookies are your playable characters, graded from C to L (Legend). Higher grades have stronger abilities but cost more to unlock and upgrade. Pets accompany your Cookie and provide passive effects like coin generation, revives, or bonus-time extensions. You hatch Pets from eggs using crystals at the Pet Shop.

Treasures are equipment pieces that boost stats like energy, score multiplier, or coin conversion. Many Treasures unlock when you max a Pet to level 8, which is why veteran players prioritize Pet collection before chasing every S-grade Cookie.

The relay system lets you bring a second Cookie into a run when the first one falls. Setting a coin-focused relay behind a score-focused main Cookie is a common strategy once you unlock the feature in mid-episode progression.

Crystal and Coin Priorities for New Players

Crystals are the premium currency. Spend them on Extra Rare Pet eggs (20 crystals) before buying S-grade Cookies with crystals. Pets are cheaper, have no unlock requirements, and many grant Treasures at max level — a compounding return that Cookies alone cannot match early on.

Coins upgrade Cookies and Pets and purchase coin-gated characters from the shop. Run coin-farming combinations — detailed in our Coin Farming guide — to build a stable income before investing in expensive Legend-grade Cookies from Episodes 2 through 4.

Complete daily missions, login events, and the Invite Event for steady crystal income. New and returning player buffs from the global launch provide extra headroom, so check the event tab every day during your first two weeks.
